Female acolytes dance in a Brazilian church
The scene above is common at Our Lady of Aparecida Church in the city of Tapejara, State of Paraná, Brazil. Young women dance joyfully around the priest inside the church, as if they were at an outdoor playground. They were obviously instructed to do so by Fr. Carlos Figueiredo, in the center. As they are all dressed as acolytes and the priest is wearing his liturgical vestments, we can readily suppose that they were preparing for Mass.
Everything is out of place: Women should not serve the Mass, should not dance in the church, especially before the altar, should not have such a light and playful attitude in a sacred place where the Sacrifice of Calvary will be renewed. And, principally, they should not be taught to do so by the priest.
Nonetheless, this is what the Bishops tell the priests to do, the Archbishops tell the Bishops to do, and the Conciliar Popes tell the Archbishops to do.
Below last row left, the immediate superior of Fr. Figueiredo, the Bishop of Umuarama João Mamede Filho, at right, the Archbishop of Maringá Severino Clasen, the immediate superior of Bishop Mamede.
