Inter religious meeting Beirut 2025 - A

Ecological ecumenism in Beirut

Above, we see Pope Leo XIV planting a tree along with Greek "Orthodox" Patriarch of Antioch, John X Yazigi, left, and Sheik Sami Abil-Muna, the Druze spiritual leader in Lebanon, right. The three, along with many other leaders, participated in the interreligious meeting that took place in Beirut on December 1, 2025, during the Pope's visit to that country.

Let us stop a little to see the points that the three leaders have in common.

The Greek "orthodox" deny the Catholic dogmas of Papal Primacy, Papal Infallibility, the procession of the Holy Spirit, Original Sin, the Immaculate Conception of Mary, and Purgatory.

The Druzes deny the Catholic doctrine of the Trinity, God as transcendent to Creation (they imagine god as immanent), and that souls have an individual destiny (they believe in a continued reincarnation).

Thus we see that the three have a little more than nothing in common, regarding doctrine.

They provide just a sample of the "common points" shared among the other 300 religious leaders present at that event.

So then, what do they do? They kiss one another, sit under a tree and plant another tree for the good of the planet...

Who, in the full use of his mental faculties, can believe that such a "unity among religions" has a drop of seriousness? We do not.
