Cardinal Wojtyla hiking in shorts

On a hiking excursion around 1975, Cardinal Karol Wojtyla poses for a photo in shorts and a short sleeve shirt. This rupture with the ceremony appropriate for a Cardinal of Holy Mother Church is, without a doubt, a revolutionary step.

Cardinal Wojtyla's custom of assuming casual attitudes like this during excursions and camping trips would make him, in many ways, the most important pioneer of the Cultural Revolution in the Church.

As Pope he would spread this liberalism in customs to the youth with the founding of the World Youth Days. Youth events where Catholic principles regarding modesty and ceremony are applied have almost completely disappeared.
