Holy Week Liturgy

Caligaverunt Oculi Mei

Caligaverunt oculi mei is the twelfth responsorio for Holy Week. Our Lord, forsaken by all, laments His abandonment, which was prefigured by the abandonment of Job. Christ calls to all people to look to His Passion and see if any suffering or sacrifice can be similar to that which He offers on the Cross.

Caligaverunt Oculi Mei was composed by Fr. Tomás Luis de Victoria.
It is here sung by the Adoremus Slovak Choir

Latin Lyrics:

Caligaverunt oculi mei a fletu meo,
Quia elongatus est a me,
Qui consolabatur me.

Videte, omnes populi,
Si est dolor similis sicut dolor meus.

O vos omnes, qui transitis per viam,
Attendite et videte,
Si est dolor similis sicut dolor meus.

Translation:

My eyes are blinded from my tears,
Because far from me is,
Anyone who will comfort me.

See, all ye people,
If there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow.

O, all ye who pass by the road,
Stop and see,
If there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow.
