THE SPANISH SHAME – The world is still digesting with nausea the startling change of mentality in Spain. From a nation of historic heroes, it became a nation of rabbits that, in face of terrorism, scurried from the war and elected a Socialist government to make sure that no Spanish soldier will fight against the Moor. The grandiose Spain of Don Pelayo, El Cid, and St. Ferdinand of Castile, the indomitable nation of the Reconquista died last month with its vile reaction to the terrorist train bombing in Madrid.

Spain supports Terrorism

Forsaking its noble past, Spain handed the victory to terrorism - National Review, April 5, 2004
Why did it forsake its noble past? To maintain its petit bourgeois life with its mediocre pleasures. It was impossible to assume a more cowardly response to terrorism, and a more shameful pretext to abandon the war in Iraq. Sancho Panza with his ridiculous belly and fears symbolizes the new Spain. A country with so little mettle is virtually conquered by the Moors. I am an admirer of the glorious past of Catholic Spanish militancy, and I followed the fading of this great vocation with sadness. Considering this, I remembered the words of Our Lady of Fatima predicting that many nations would disappear. We witnessed one of these nations that has vanished.

I ask the hasty Americans who are against the war on terrorism: Is this the kind of reaction you wanted from the United States after September 11? Don’t you see that this would be a virtual defeat before fanatic Mohammedism? If you take such a position, you are either completely naive or an accomplice to terrorism.

 Cardinal Rouco Varela

Pacifist Card. Varela presents "love" as the only answer for terrorism
Less surprising, but not less worthy of rejection, were the words of Cardinal Rouco Varela, Archbishop of Madrid, when he preached that the only answer to terror is love. At a Mass in Madrid on March 24 paying tribute to those killed in the terrorist attack, he counseled his large audience to an “entreating love so that the Lord will bring the terrorists to penitence and conversion” (The Tablet, April 3, 2004, p. 28). Against the “seed of hate” planted by the terrorists, the Cardinal urged the remedy of love – nothing more.

By preaching love for the Islamic terrorists, the Cardinal indirectly but strongly attacked the pro-war position of the previous Spanish government and favored the Socialist opposition, whose candidate made campaign promises to reform the civil code to allow same-sex marriages and relax the laws against abortions. It is the invariable hypocritical position of the Conciliar Church, which always ends by betraying the traditional Catholic teaching. In fact, the Socialist candidate José Rodriguez Zapatero won in the general election on March 14, and the dishonor of Spain was complete.

AN ESCALATING JIHAD – Regarding the increasingly clear intention of the Mohammedans to impose their empire over the world, I think it is opportune to transcribe here some excerpts from an interview that author Robert Spencer, an expert on Islamism, granted to Michael Miller. It was published in The Catholic World Report (April 2004). Spencer has been studying Islam for the last 25 years. Among other books, he has authored Islam Unveiled (2002); Inside Islam (2003, with Daniel Ali) and Onward Muslim Soldiers (2003). Therefore, his opinions are based on long research.
Question – “In their zeal not to suggest that ‘all Muslims are terrorists,’ many North Americans scholars and commentators go so far as to suggest that it is bigotry or racial profiling to point out that many, if not most, terrorists in recent conflicts have been radical Muslims. Are there reliable statistics about this phenomenon?

Spencer – “That’s very simple. All the September 11 terrorists were Muslims. There is a global network of terrorists groups who forthrightly avow that they are motivated by Islamic principles; there is no comparable group of terrorists operating in the name of any other religion or belief system. I document this network extensively in my book Onward Muslim Soldiers and at www.jihadwatch.org

Question – “What are the grievances of radical Islamic terrorism against the United States in particular? What do they hope to accomplish by violence?

Spencer – “Islamic terrorists, including Osama bin Laden, have been quite clear: they want to reestablish the caliphate and institute the Shari’a [the Islamic government and law] everywhere they can. …. They are fighting for a developed idea of society. The United States, with its republican government and global culture, is the chief competitor to this idea.

 Terrorism in Fallujah

Instigated by the Muslim clergy, a mob kills and burns American soldiers, then celebrates. Two of their bodies hang over the bridge - US News & World Report, April 12, 2004
“Why violence? Because Islam is unique among world religions in having a doctrine, theology, and law mandating violence against unbelievers. The prophet Mohammed himself directed:
Fight in the name of Allah in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war …. (Sahih Muslim, book 19, n. 4294)
Question – “Isn’t the suicide condemned by the Koran? Do terrorists misuse the holy book of Islam in order to justify suicide bombing?

Spencer – “Suicide is indeed condemned by the Koran: ‘be not cast by your hands to ruin’ (Sura 2:195). However, other Muslims defend suicide bombing on the basis of other verses of the Koran: ‘Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of paradise): they fight in his cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on him in truth’ (Sura 9:111). They point out that this is the only guarantee of paradise given anywhere in the Koran, to those who slay and are slain in Allah’s cause.

Question – “Based on your analysis of the contemporary Islamic Jihad, what practical steps should the United States and other Western democracies take to defend themselves?

Spencer – “Tighter immigration controls and monitoring of American mosques. We have abundant evidence that sedition takes place in many of those mosques. Having someone there paying attention to what is being preached will violate no one’s civil rights or freedom of religion.”
I agree with Spencer in both his general and practical observations. They correspond perfectly with what we have recently witnessed in Fallujah, the barbaric mutilation and burning of dead American soldiers. Such actions were clearly oriented by the Islamic clergy.

In my opinion, the present panorama shows that the Jihad – the Islamic religious war against the West – is escalating in the Arab countries. Would we, waving the Geneva Conventions as a banner, be prepared to face this “holy” war? Let us wait and see.
