Russian ‘Pearl Harbor’

Dear TIA,

I saw this very interesting news that I hope is not fake: Ukraine military forces entered Russia with disguised trucks that parked close to its main military airports and sent drones to destroy with success 40 of Russia’s missile carrier planes. They represented 34% of the Russian missile carriers.

If this is true, it shows a brilliant operation that will cause a great drop in morale to the Russian troops.

Please, check below.

‘Russian Pearl Harbor’: Moscow stunned after Ukrainian drones hit 5 bases, destroy 40 aircraft

Ben Wolfgang - The Washington Times - Monday, June 2, 2025

Ukrainian forces destroyed more than 40 aircraft and struck five separate Russian air bases in a surprise assault Sunday that represented one of the most devastating, embarrassing blows to Moscow’s war machine since its war with Kyiv began more than three years ago.

One prominent Russian military blogger dubbed the assault the “Russian Pearl Harbor,” as Russian military insiders appeared stunned that their country’s military and security services could’ve missed such a brazen, ambitious operation. The attacks came just a day before representatives from the two nations met for another round of ceasefire negotiations in Turkey on Monday.

The assault appeared to borrow from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s playbook: Conduct a major attack on the eve of peace talks in an effort to put substantial pressure on the other side and demonstrate your ability to inflict major damage on the enemy.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the planning for the attack, called the “Spiderweb” operation, took 18 months. The operation involved 117 Ukrainian drones hitting Russian military bases across the country, from outside Moscow to Siberia.

“The preparation took over a year and a half. Planning, organization, every detail was perfectly executed. It can be said with confidence that this was an absolutely unique operation,” Mr. Zelenskyy said in a series of social media posts. “What’s most interesting, and this can now be stated publicly, is that the ’office’ of our operation on Russian territory was located directly next to FSB headquarters in one of their regions.”

Indeed, the operation seems to be a monumental blow to the credibility of Russia’s Federal Security Service, or FSB. Ukrainian forces reportedly smuggled their drones into Russian territory in the backs of trucks and then parked them near each of the five Russian bases. Positioning the aircraft so close to the Russian military sites allowed the operation to unfold with speed and precision. And, according to Mr. Zelenskyy, all of the Ukrainian drone operators escaped Russian territory safely.

The 40 Russian aircraft destroyed in the assault represent about 34% of Russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers, Ukrainian officials said. The cost of the damage to the Russian military is about $7 billion, according to estimates from Ukrainian officials.

Some high-profile Russian military insiders seemed stunned by the audacity of the operation — and their country’s security failures.

First Anti-Communist Action

Hello TIA,

With the Trump’s “glasnost” [openess] with Russia that unfortunately we saw until recently, many, many of his supporters – me included – were greatly disappointed. How can the U.S., the symbol of anti-communism, become a supporter of Putin? This can only be qualified as an historical betrayal.

Last week, however, Trump seems to be breaking with Putin. I hope so.

Anyway, today I read about the first anti-communist action of Trump’s second term, as far as I remember.

He will be denying visas for university students linked to the Chinese Communist Party.

In passing, a shocking data: We had 277,000 Chinese students in our universities last year! Wow! If this is not an invasion, I don’t know what an invasion means.

Meanwhile, many American students were denied access to those universities because their places were taken by the Chinese.

Our great president should be a little more careful about his constant changes of direction in his pro-communist / pro-anti-communist actions. He should not forget that at his age many people are asking if his constant changes could be symptoms of dementia…

We had enough with “sleeping Joe”; we don’t need a “frenzied volatile Don” with the same disease.

Trump administration to crack down on Chinese visas, Rubio says

David Nakamura and Katrina Northrop

Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday announced plans to crack down on Chinese holders of student visas and ramp up scrutiny of new visa applicants from China and Hong Kong, escalating the Trump administration’s confrontational approach to Beijing.

In a statement, Rubio said the State Department would work with the Department of Homeland Security to “aggressively revoke” visas of Chinese students in the United States, “including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields.”

He did not specify which areas of study would be targeted — of the 277,398 Chinese students at U.S. universities last year, more than 110,000 were pursuing math, engineering, science and technology courses — or define what “connections” meant.

About 100 million people belong to the Chinese Communist Party, with membership often used as a fast-track to higher social and economic status rather than an act of ideological commitment. Rubio also did not provide details about what additional measures the department would take to scrutinize new visa applicants, and whether this applied to student visas only or all categories of visas. The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
