Benedict rewarded by Jewish rabbi

Rabbi Martin Hier from the Simon Wiesenthal Center was received by Benedict XVI at the Vatican on November 14, 2005. The meeting was to offer a gift to Benedict for his support of Judaism.

It seems that Benedict denied the past condemnations of Popes and Councils against the Jewish religion when he affirmed that "after a difficult and painful history, relations between our two communities are presently taking a new, more positive direction."
