Princess Mary of Denmark and Princess Mary holding opera glasses

Do use opera glasses when it is appropriate

The two persons you see above are, on the left, Princess Mary of Denmark, married to the heir of the throne, Prince Federik, and Princess Marie, the wife of his brother Prince Joachim. The two Princesses are attending a fashion show at Copenhagen theater in February 2013.

They took advantage of that opportunity to use their lorgnons or opera glasses. They are small binoculars, artistically crafted, which were for centuries a graceful complement to the elegant lady.

The two Princesses did something very good by giving a new prestige to the use of opera glasses. We should follow their example and take from our shelves the ones we had stored away and were too timid to use.

Do use your opera glasses when it is appropriate
