To Be Hated by the Impious Is the Glory
of the Catholic Press

In view of the fact that the TIA website has received many criticisms, attacks and manifestations of hatred from Progressivists and Conservatives, among others, we thought it opportune to reproduce part of a letter that St. Pius X wrote to the General of the Society of Jesus, Fr. Francis Xavier Wernz, in 1914. He shows how raising this hatred is a characteristic of those who follow in the steps of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

St. Pius X

We are pleased to express Our heart-felt praise for this Society, which in the period of the last 100 years had worked so much to promote the glory of God and the salvation of souls in many different ways: in the works of the Holy Missions, the formation of youth, the teaching of philosophy and theology according to the doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas, its daily priestly works, principally the preaching of the Spiritual Exercise and the dissemination of good, scholarly and vigorous writings.

But above all, We express our sympathy with the Society of Jesus for what it has suffered - and still suffers - from so many indignities and outrages from those who are evil. The cause of these hostilities is the exemplary dedication and service to the Papacy that, no Catholic will deny, is among the greatest glories of this Society. Besides, we know that the world cannot be in peace with those who piously follow Jesus Christ, as the Lord Himself warned His disciples: 'Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake' (Luke 6:22).

(St. Pius X, letter Omnes quidem filios, May 10, 1914)
