The Dogma of Hell – Part III

The Children of Fatima See Hell

Dr. Remi Amelunxen
In the Prologue of her Fourth Memoir, Sister Lucia wrote an account of the Vision of Hell she and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco, saw at Fatima on July 13, 1917. Lucy was age 10, Francisco 9, and Jacinta 7. She stated:

“I shall begin then my new task, and thus fulfill the commands received from Your Excellency as well as the desires of Rev. Dr. Galamba. With the exception of that part of the secret I am not permitted to reveal at present, I shall say everything. I shall not knowingly omit anything, though I suppose I may forget just a few small details of minor importance.”

The vision of Hell: July 13, 1917

In the July 1917 apparition, in which the Secret was revealed, Our Lady told the children to sacrifice themselves for sinners and say this prayer often upon making sacrifices: “Jesus, it is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

Three seers

The three seers after the vision of Hell

Lucy continued: “As Our Lady spoke these last words, she opened her hands once again, as she had done during the two previous months. The rays of light seemed to penetrate the earth and we saw, as it were, a sea of fire.

“Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form, like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, floating about in the conflagration, now raised into the air by the flames that issued from within themselves together with great clouds of smoke, now falling back on every side like sparks in huge fires, without weight or equilibrium, amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fear.

"(It must have been the sight that caused me to cry out, as people say they heard me). The demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and unknown animals, black and transparent like burning coals.

“Terrified and as if to plead for succor, we looked up at Our Lady, who said to us kindly but so sadly:

“‘You have seen Hell, where poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.

“’The war is going to end; but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father.

“’To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace, if not she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church.

"The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated, but in the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph.
The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world.’”

The request for the consecration

Tuy vision Sister Lucy

A depiction of Lucy's vision of the Trinity at Tuy

Twelve years later, on June 13, 1929, Our Lady appeared again to Lucy, who was a Dorothean novitiate at Tuy, Spain. Having received permission from her superior to make a holy hour from 11 p.m. to midnight, she was praying the prayers of the Angel, lying prostrate before the altar.

Suddenly the chapel was illuminated by a supernatural light. Lucy beheld a vision of the Most Holy Trinity and Our Lady, and Lucy was given a profound understanding of that mystery. During this apparition, Our Lady revealed what is, in my opinion, one of the most important requests in History. The Blessed Virgin told Lucia:

The moment has come in which God asks the Holy Father, in union with all the Bishops of the world, to make the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, promising to save it by this means. So numerous are the souls which the justice of God condemns for sins committed against me, that I have come to ask for reparation: Sacrifice yourself for this intention and pray.” (1)

At this point, a reader might ask two questions:
  1. Why was the Consecration of Russia not done in obedience to the request of Our Lady?

  2. Why discuss the Consecration of Russia in an article about the children of Fatima seeing Hell?
Both questions will be addressed below.

The unmade consecration

Why did Pius XI not obey Heaven’s request after he learned of it weeks or months subsequent to 1929? One word suffices to explain it all – a false ecumenism that was already being pursued with the Schismatic Church in Russia and continues to the present time.

Pope Pius XI

Pius XI preferred to follow the policy of ecumenism rather than the command of Our Lady

The accomplishment of a solemn act of reparation and consecration of Russia by the Pope and Bishops presupposes a formal, doctrinal condemnation of Communism and a firm, independent policy regarding Bolshevik Russia. Instead, Vatican diplomacy, which was already striving to appease the Schismatics, viewed the request of Our Lady as an obstacle to their aims.

This reason, already present at the time of Pius XI, became evident under John XXIII when Card. Eugène Tisserant, Secretary of the Sacred Congregation for the Eastern Churches, avoided the topic of Fatima and any reference against Communism at Vatican II in order to have the Russian Schismatic observers attend the Council. This is how the request of Our Lady was completely buried.

Today, 85 years have passed since that request and the Consecration has not been made in obedience to the Blessed Mother. To fully analyze the reasons for this would elongate this article too far. The fact remains that it was not made despite “partial attempts” and entrustments made to Our Lady – three by Pius XII, one by Paul VI and four by John Paul II – none of which fulfilled the precise request of Our Lady.

If the Consecration had been made…

Having answered the first question, the second will be addressed: Why is the Consecration related to the children’s vision of Hell?

If Pius XI had made the Consecration, this act would have changed History dramatically. From Our Lady’s words, we can deduce the following:
    dresden bombed

An angel looks down ruefully on the bombed city of Dresden....

  • There would have been no World War II.

  • Millions of people would not have been killed during that War, often by sudden death with no time for repentence. How many of those souls went to Hell !

  • Russians would have been converted by the millions, and many of them would thus have attained salvation instead of suffering damnation as Schismatics.

  • The terrible apostasy in the Church we have been suffering for so long – and which grows worse daily – would not have occurred. How many Catholics would still be following the doctrine of the true Faith, instead of being set off the path by the Progressivism, which has dominated the Church openly after Vatican II and introduced the Novus Ordo Missae.

  • In his brilliant Collection on Vatican II, Atila Sinke Guimarães has fully documented every aspect of the devastation the Council wreaked in escalating the apostasy.

  • All the subsequent wars would have been averted, and the world, most probably, would have entered the Reign of Mary.
Therefore, if Pius XI had made the Consecration of Russia even in the last year of his Pontificate, i.e., 1939, all the consequences listed above would not have happened.

Although Pius XI wrote the encyclical Divini Redemptoris (1937) against Communism, Communism spread its errors throughout the world. This would not have happened had Russia been converted, as promised by Our Lady if the Consecration had been made.

Would it not have been infinitely more important and praiseworthy for Pius XI to have fulfilled Our Lady’s request? Consider the multitude of souls that would not have fallen into Hell had this act been done.

The Third Secret

Finally, because of its intimate relationship to Fatima, it seems opportune to mention the Third Secret revealed by Our Lady to the three children on the same date they saw Hell. Later Lucia affirmed that, at Our Lady’s request, it should be released to the world in 1960.

As we know, the request was rejected. In 1960, John XXIII closed the question: "This matter is not for our times." He did this in direct contradiction to the command of the Mother of God: According to some Prelates who read the Third Secret, it refers to an apostasy inside the Church.

For example, Card. Mario Luigi Ciappi wrote: “In the Third Secret it is predicted, among other things, that the great apostasy in the Church will begin at the top.” According to Card. Silvio Oddi, Vatican II was the revolution the Church predicted in the Third Secret. You can read his words here.

The effect of the release of the Third Secret could have had a salutary effect on the faithful and warned them of the danger of Progressivism, This could have prevented the upcoming Vatican II and Novus Ordo Missae from taking effect. Instead of a policy of compromise and conciliation with the enemies of the Church, would it not have awakened the spirit of militancy to defend the truth and sound morals? And would this not have contributed greatly to the salvation of many souls that otherwise suffered damnation?

Final considerations

The burning question remains: When will the consecration be made? Our Blessed Mother has given us the promise: “In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me and she will be converted and some time of peace will be granted to the world.”

vatican II Popes

Did the Secret mention the disastrous Council and its Popes?

Fr. Alonso, a confidant of Sister Lucy, who wrote 11 books on Fatima that were subsequently suppressed by the Vatican, interpreted Our Lady’s words: “The final triumph of Mary’s Heart is certain and it will be definitive. But it will take place ‘in the end’ – that is to say, after a terrible purification of sinful humanity in a baptism of fire, blood and tears.” (2)

In my opinion, the upcoming “baptism of fire, blood and tears” could well refer to a nuclear chastisement prior to the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. What would be the result of a nuclear holocaust?

Of the 7-plus billion people on earth, more than two-thirds could be easily annihilated. How many of the Catholics in this number will go to Hell because they don’t know the Third Secret? Probably, an enormous number.

And where does the primary blame rest for such a massive loss of souls? On the Popes who did not make the Consecration, on faithless ecclesiastics and theologians. If only Pius XI had followed Heaven’s plan instead of man’s designs in the 1930s… Or if subsequent Popes had made the Consecration, how much of the destruction of the Church could have been avoided?

How will the conversion of Russia occur? Some speculate there could be an apparition of the Blessed Mother, as at Guadalupe, that will effect a full and immediate conversion of Russia to Catholicism? He who lives will see…

What is certain is that the Blessed Mother has emphasized that we have a choice, Heaven or Hell, which is the final and irreversible outcome for every man.
