Song of Advent

Rorate Caeli

Rorate Caeli is an Advent hymn imploring God to send us His most Glorious Son. The Church interprets the sadness of mankind without redemption waiting in earnest for its salvation. This hymn expresses the expectation for the Just One Who shall open the pathway of Salvation. Thus she anticipates the glory and joy of the coming Nativity.

Rorate Caeli is here sung by the Choir of St. Saviour's Cathedral, Bruges, Belgium.

Listen to the Rorate Caeli

Latin Lyrics:

Roráte caéli désuper,
Et núbes plúant jústum,
Aperiátur térra, et gérminet Salvatórem.

Caeli enarrant gloriam Dei:
Et opera manuum ejus annuntiat firmamentum.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto,
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,
Et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.

Roráte caéli désuper,
Et núbes plúant jústum:
Aperiátur térra, et gérminet Salvatórem.

EnglishLyrics:

Drop down ye heavens from above,
And let the clouds pour down the Just,
Let the earth be opened and bring forth the Savior.

The heavens declare the Glory of God:
And the firmament His handiwork.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning is now
And ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Drop down ye heavens from above,
And let the clouds pour down the Just,
Let the earth be opened and bring forth the Savior.
