During a May 16, 2005 audience Pope Benedict XVI wore two different Hawaiian leis given to him by pilgrims from that state.

This represents one of the first steps Pope Ratzinger has taken
on the broad road of the desacralization of the Papacy,
so frequently tread by Pope Wojtyla.
