While Communism continued to persecute the Catholic Church in the USSR as well as to forbid spreading Catholic social doctrine about private property, Paul VI invited Nicholas Podgorny to the Vatican.
In the picture above, in January 1967 the Pope received Podgorny, the chairman of the USSR Supreme Soviet.
