Another Compromise in San Francisco

Prof. Remi Amelunxen

homosexuality
In San Francisco on February 7, 2007, Archbishop George Niederauer said on a local radio station (KCBS) that “he is very happy about a compromise plan” that enables Catholic Charities’ workers in his Archdiocese to refer homosexual couples to adopt children (CNA online). Catholic Charities would work in association with a subsidiary of Family Builders by Adoption, an agency that secures adoption for homosexual couples. Such collaboration provides legality for Catholic Charities, which thereby is not “officially” a party in the adoption procedures.

Archbishop Niederauer succeeds Archbishop Levada (soon to be a Cardinal) who now heads the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, a post headed by Cardinal Ratzinger prior to his becoming Benedict XVI. Levada’s record of protecting homosexuals was deplorable.

Archbishop Niederauer supports homosexuals adopting children

Archbishop Niederauer is "happy" about a plan that allows homosexuals to adopt children

In 2005 Cardinal Ratzinger issued a document entitled “Considerations regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions between Homosexual Persons,” a vague title to say the least. It states that the Catholic Church does not approve or wish to take part in the adoption of children by homosexual couples. As unfortunately is common today, that document lacks the force of condemnation Church documents have before Vatican II and seems to leave the door open a bit for the adoption of children, which is exactly what Archbishop Niederauer seems to be taking advantage of.

One might suggest that Archbishop Niederauer is ignorant of his serious breach of Catholic teaching regarding homosexuality. It is difficult to imagine that a man would be ignorant of it and reach the important position he occupies in the see of San Francisco. This possibility would reveal that Benedict XVI, who chose him for the post, is also unable to discern his favorites. Most likely, however, Archbishop Niederauer knew perfectly well what he was doing, and did it because he is to be numbered among the progressivist hierarchy whose agenda includes promotion of homosexuality.

Apparently Archbishop Niederauer also lacks knowledge of Sacred Scripture, or more plausible, he cares not to believe and to enforce the infallible word of God.

Scriptures and Church Teachings

Regarding homosexuality, I would suggest that Niederauer read the following citations in Sacred Scripture (1), and then seriously heed the words of St. Peter Damian in his long discourse on the severity of the sin of Sodomy (2). Only a brief quote from the saint will be cited here. These are the extremely strong words of the Saint about the vice of sodomy:
“In fact this vice is absolutely not comparable to any others because its enormity supersedes them all. Indeed, this vice produces the death of bodies and the destruction of souls. It pollutes the flesh, extinguishes the light of reason, expels the Holy Ghost from his temple in man’s heart and introduces into it the Devil who is the instigator of lust.

“It leads into error, totally expels truth from the deceived soul, sets up traps for those who fall into, then caps the well to prevent those who fall into it from getting out, opens the gate of Hell and closes the door to Heaven to them, turns a former citizen of the heavenly Jerusalem into an heir of the infernal Babylon, transforming him from a heavenly star into a straw for the eternal fire, wrenches a member away from the Churches and plunges him into the voracious flames of the fiery Gehenna.”

1. Citations from the Old Testament on homosexuality: Gen 19:1-13, 24-25; Lev 18:22-23,20:13; Deut 23:17 ; Judges 19:1. 14-16. 20, 22-25; 3 Kings 14:21-24, 15:9-12; 4 Kings 22:4, 23:7; Wisdom 14:9, 26-27.
Citations from the New Testament: 1 Rom 1:16, 21-27, 31; 1 Cor 6:9-10; 1 Tim 1:9-10; 2 Pet 2:1, 6-9; Jude 1:3-4, 7. These citations were taken from the excellent book entitled The Rite of Sodomy; Homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church by Randy Engel, pp. 34-39.

2. In Vatican II, Homosexuality & Pedophilia, a succinct excellent presentation by Atila Sinke Guimarães, a excerpt from the Liber gomorrhianus (Book of Gomorrah) of St. Peter Damian (1007-1072) is presented which St. Leo IX highly praised. Only the first paragraph is cited above.

Niederauer is Giving Serious Moral Scandal

I also suggest that Archbishop Niederauer review in his mind the definition of scandal. Websters New World Dictionary gives the following definition of scandal: “Any act, person or thing that offends or shocks moral feelings of the community and leads to disgrace; a reaction of shame, disgrace or outrage caused by such a person act or thing; offense by some improper or unconventional conduct.”

Homosexual couple with adopted children

More importantly, the Archbishop should quake at the following words of Christ: “He that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone should be hanged about his neck and that he should be drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of scandals! For it must needs be that scandals come: but never the less woe to that man by whom the scandal cometh!” (Matthew 18:6-7)

Wouldn’t children living under the same roof with homosexual couples be scandalized by a sin that cries to Heaven for vengeance? Would not the perverted couples try to induce the little ones to their sexual philosophy of life? Many more horrible questions can be asked.

The gravity of the transgressions of the Archbishop put salvation of his soul in jeopardy. Without citing references to St. Thomas Aquinas in his Summa or to traditional Catholic teaching, suffice it to say that final repentance for sins of this nature that become pertinacious is undoubtedly difficult to achieve, but we must pray that Our Lord through His Blessed Mother enlighten him and grant him this grace.

The implementation of his directive would result in the loss of countless souls which would deeply sadden Our Lord and His Blessed Mother.
