Dos and Don’ts in Photos
Do teach your children to greet dignitaries
On May 2, 2019, the Count and Countess of Paris – the heirs of the Crown of France if it were a Monarchy – received French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at the Royal Chateau d’Amboise, the palace of the Kings of France during the Renaissance in the Loire Valley, above. The royal couple was accompanied by Prince Gaston and Princess Antoinette, the eldest of their six children. The Count of Paris is the honorary president of the Saint-Louis Foundation and owner of the royal Chateau d’Amboise.
In the picture above, the current head of the French Royal House Jean d’Orleans paternally watches his son greet the President. The young Prince, in his suit and tie, manfully offers a handshake to the Mr. Macron, maintaining an amiable demeanor.
Below, the President moves on to gently press the extended hand of the young Princess, who smiles sweetly with a serene ladylike demeanor.
These photos reflect the happy continuation of a tradition of days past, when good protocol was strictly kept in the noble houses. From an early age, children were expected to be well-dressed, and to know how to greet dignitaries with composure, following the customs of Christian Civilization.
Inspired by the nobles, all of society used to have good manners and follow proper protocol in greeting guests. It is encouraging to see the Count and Countess of Paris inculcating Catholic etiquette in their family. We hope that today this good example will be followed by Catholic families everywhere, at all levels of society.
Do teach your children to greet dignitaries.
